Cymorth gan Anifeiliaid ar gyfer Helpu Plant i Ddarllen yn Hyderus a Lleihau Straen i Fyfyrwyr Prifysgol
Dr Shubha Sreenivas
Uwch-ddarlithydd mewn Seicoleg Fiolegol
Bydd Shubha yn trafod y modd y mae therapi anifeiliaid anwes wedi esblygu fel therapi cyflenwol a bydd yn sôn am y gydnabyddiaeth gynyddol a roddir yn ddiweddar i’w werth o ran rheoli trallod seicolegol a chorfforol.
Cynhaliwyd dwy astudiaeth ymchwil. Cynhaliwyd yr astudiaeth gyntaf gyda 6 o ysgolion cynradd yng Ngogledd Cymru i ategu sgiliau darllen plant trwy ddarllen i gŵn. Roedd yr astudiaeth arall yn ymwneud â’r manteision a ddaw i ran myfyrwyr wrth ryngweithio gyda chŵn therapi. Dangosodd y canlyniadau fod manteision clir wedi dod i ran y plant a’r myfyrwyr. Cynyddodd cymhelliant a hyder y plant wrth ddarllen ac ymddengys hefyd fod eu llesiant wedi gwella. Dywedodd y myfyrwyr eu bod yn teimlo llai o straen a bod eu llesiant wedi gwella ar ôl rhyngweithio â chi therapi am gyfnod byr. Mae hyn oll yn cynnig gwybodaeth werthfawr ynglŷn â defnyddio ymyriadau newydd a byr i hybu llesiant plant a myfyrwyr ar wahanol adegau yn eu siwrnai addysg.
Bydd y ddarlith hon yn cynnig cyfle i fyfyrio ar y manteision sy’n perthyn i ddod i gysylltiad ag anifeiliaid anwes. Yn bwysicach fyth, bydd yn cynnig cyfle i ddeall pa mor werthfawr yw therapi anifeiliaid anwes – hyd yn oed am gyfnod byr – ar gyfer rheoli straen.

Pawsome Support for Confident Reading in Children and Easing Stress for University Students
Dr Shubha Sreenivas
Senior Lecturer in Biological Psychology
Shubha will discuss the evolution of pet-therapy as a complementary therapy and the more recent recognition of its value in managing individuals’ physical and psychological distress.
Two research studies were conducted, one with 6-primary schools in North Wales to support children’s reading skills by reading to dogs, and another on the benefits for students when interacting with therapy dogs. The results demonstrated clear benefits for children and students. Primary school children became more motivated and confident in reading; they also appeared to experience better wellbeing. University students reported experiencing reduced stress and improved wellbeing after interacting with a therapy dog for a short time. This provides valuable insight into using novel and brief interventions to promote general wellbeing amongst children and students at various stages of the education journey.
This lecture will offer an opportunity to reflect on the benefits of engaging with pets and more importantly understanding the value of using pet-therapy even as a brief encounter, for managing stress.
