DARKFIELD Masterclass: Making Immersive Audio Experiences

Create North East Lincolnshire is pleased to bring this free workshop to you in partnership with Threshold Studio, with this hands-on workshop led by DARKFIELD as part of Frequency Festival Programme.

You'll get the opportunity to dive into DARKFIELD’s creative practice, and develop an understanding of immersive audio-based storytelling. You will play with the binaural equipment, whilst exploring ways to place the audience at the centre of an experience and ways to heighten immersion and interactivity.

You will leave with ideas of how you can use immersive audio technology in your own creative practice, having taken part in both solo and group practical exercises throughout the workshop, with guidance from two core members of the DARKFIELD creative team. Usually this masterclass would cost £150 per person so we're delighted to enable participants to attend for free

This 3 hour masterclass will include:

• An overview of DARKFIELD’s artistic process: core concepts and techniques explored in our work.
• Guided creative exercises to start participants thinking about setting and sound from a first person perspective
• Introduction to the technologies DARKFIELD use and demonstration of the binaural microphone.

• Practical work in groups with DARKFIELD’s state-of-the-art binaural audio equipment to create and share the beginnings of an immersive audio piece by the end of the workshop.

• A Q&A session where participants will have the opportunity to exchange feedback, ask deeper questions, and explore how they can apply their learnings in their own practice.

• Refreshments will be provided

Who is the DARKFIELD Masterclass for:

This masterclass is for 18+ creatives & emerging artists based in Greater Lincolnshire with an interest in sound and performance. If you are a local theatre maker, sound artist or technician or XR maker, this will be right up your street. However, this masterclass is open to everyone so if you are looking to develop your skills you will also take away key learnings.

Getting Here:

• By Car: YMCA Humber is in Grimsby with limited parking available, but other car parks are nearby with some off-street parking.

• By Train: The closest train station is Grimsby Town, its roughly a 30-minute walk from the train station but is serviced by a variety of buses from the station which take roughly 10 minutes.

• By Bus: YMCA Humber closest bus stop is Market & Duncombe Street serviced by routes number 3 (buses every 10 minutes) & 9, in both directions.
