The Yorkshire Dales National Park is a place where you can find the most wondrous star-filled skies, free from light pollution. Learn fun facts about the planets and star constellations in our solar system along the self-guided Trail.
The Planet Trail will be on display within Freeholders’ Wood, which is just a few metres away from Aysgarth Falls National Park Visitor Centre and the delicious Coppice Café. For Visitor Centre opening times see the Aysgarth National Park Visitor Centre page on our website.
The trail is approximately 1.5km to complete the full circuit including the waterfalls. This Planet Trail will be on display (24hrs per day) in the woodland from 13th February to 01 March 2026, as part of the Yorkshire Dales Dark Skies Festival.
Pick up a Kids Trail Quiz sheet from Aysgarth National Park Visitor Centre. Hand in your completed quiz sheet to the staff at the Visitor Centre and claim your space-themed sweet prize!
Booking is not required.
Come and try the dark skies-themed rubbing trail at Freeholders’ Wood, Aysgarth National Park Visitor Centre. Explore the grounds and find the constellation rubbing plaques, use your brass rubbing crayon and discover the 10 different constellations we have hidden for you to find. This is a drop-in event, no booking is required, but please check National Park Visitor Centre opening hours before visiting.
