About this Event
Physical mediumship involves phenomena that extend into the physical world and traditionally requires darkness to occur.
Examples of Dark Room Physical Mediumship Phenomena
During a dark room séance, participants have reported experiencing various physical phenomena, often involving the purported manifestation of "ectoplasm"—a substance said to be used by spirits to create physical effects. These phenomena include:
• Independent Voices: Distinct voices speaking from the air, often using a trumpet-like instrument, rather than through the medium's own vocal cords.
• Object Movement (Psychokinesis):Objects in the room, such as tables or musical instruments, moving or levitating on their own.
• Materialization: The formation of spirit bodies or body parts (hands, faces, etc.) from ectoplasm, which are sometimes visible as holographic projections or solid forms.
• Apports: The materialization of small objects out of thin air.
• Dancing Lights: Unexplained, intelligently moving lights or luminous shapes (sometimes described as "psychic lights") that appear in the dark.
• Raps and Noises: Unexplained loud raps, knocks, or other noises on the walls, ceiling, or furniture.
• Unexplained Images: Images appearing on sealed photographic film.
Why Darkness is Used
According to spiritualist theory, darkness is a necessary condition for physical manifestations for several reasons:
• Energy Requirements: The darkness is said to help maintain a high "vibration" or energy level required for spirits to interact with our physical dimension. Light is believed to dissipate the delicate energy (ectoplasm) necessary for manifestations.
• Development and Rarity: Mediums train in the dark to develop their abilities, and spirit guides are believed to manage when, and if, light might be introduced at a later, more advanced stage.
