Darebin Summer 2024 Chess Tournament

Open for both adults and children 6 years and older. Winners awarded in the open (adult) and children's age categories (12 yo and below)

Open to residents and non-residents of Darebin City Council.

Entry cost: Adult: $20 (plus Eventbrite booking fees and GST)

Concession/Student/Child: $10 (plus Eventbrite booking fees and GST)

Anyone who would have difficulty paying this entry fee is welcome to come see us at our Monday Chess Club at that Preston Library (every Monday 5:30pm to 7:30pm). Support is available thanks to Darebin City Council.

The Darebin Chess Tournament (Summer 2024) will run in compliance with Victorian Government and Darebin Council Covid-19 regulations (wherever applicable).

We expect that all children 12 years old and below will be accompanied by at least one adult who must remain at the venue for the entire tournament. There is no limit to the number of non-playing adults from each family who can attend. Capacity limits no longer apply at the venue, so non-playing adults are welcome to attend without needing to book a ticket.

Parents of all children enrolling in the tournament are requested to consider whether your child has the concentration level and skill level to enjoy playing in the tournament. It is unavoidable that some of their games will be against adults. If you are unsure whether your children has the skill level appropriate for the tournament, please come see us on a Monday evening in the Preston Library (5:30pm to 7:30pm).

If you register for this tournament but later become unwell or no longer wish to attend for any reason, please cancel your registration or send an email to us so that we can release the ticket to those on our waitlist and refund your entry fee. (We can only refund our own component entry fee. We cannot refund the Eventbrite booking fee).

As a courtesy to the other participants, please ensure that you are at the venue prior to the starting time of 1pm and you must be able to stay for the entire duration of the tournament (ending approximately 4:30pm). All participants will participate in all seven rounds. (This is not a knock-out style tournament.) Time limits will apply for all games (10 minutes, plus increment).

This will be a Covid-safe event. If you are feeling unwell, have been required to self-isolate or are awaiting Coronavirus test results, please do not attend. Hand sanitizer will be available on all tables. Face Masks are optional.

By participating in the Darebin Chess Tournament, you consent that your photograph may be taken at this event by the organizer and used by Darebin Chess Club Inc. or the City of Darebin in promotional materials, including the publication of names of winners in each category.
