About this Event

P&T Knitwear is pleased to welcome Daniella Toosie-Watson to celebrate and discuss her new book, What We Do With God: a poetry collection that collapses the division among humans, the natural world, and the divine.

Daniella will be reading alongside poets Jayson Smith, José Olivarez, author of , and Diamond Forde, author of .

Housekeeping notes:

  • This is a ticketed in-store event with limited amphitheater-style seating.
  • Doors open at 6:30pm.
  • Books will be available for purchase at the event.
  • Cost of a $5 general admission ticket can be applied towards your purchase.
  • Cost of a book bundle ticket reflects the total cost of the feature event book (MSRP plus tax). Each book bundle ticket guarantees ticket holders one (1) copy of the feature event book.
  • The talk will be followed by a book signing. Books signed at P&T Knitwear events must be purchased from P&T Knitwear.
  • If you would like a signed copy and cannot attend the event, we're happy to take your pre-order. We ship most places!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Daniella Toosie-Watson (she/they) is a poet, visual artist, and educator from New York whose work has appeared in The Atlantic, The Paris Review, Callaloo, Virginia Quarterly Review, Poet Lore, The Cincinnati Review, and elsewhere. Daniella received their MFA from the University of Michigan Helen Zell Writers’ Program.


ABOUT THE READERS

Jayson P. Smith (they/them; b. Bronx, NY. 1992) is an interdisciplinary artist, writer, & curator, currently living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Primarily working within language, sound, and movement, their work is interested in Black performance/interiority, collaboration, & somatic practices.

José Olivarez is the son of Mexican immigrants. He is a co-host of the podcast, The Poetry Gods. A winner of fellowships from Poets House, The Bronx Council On The Arts, The Poetry Foundation, and The Conversation Literary Festival, his work has been published in The BreakBeat Poets and elsewhere. He is the Marketing Manager at Young Chicago Authors.

Diamond Forde’s debut collection, Mother Body, was chosen by Patricia Smith as the winner of the 2019 Saturnalia Poetry Prize. She has been the recipient of the Pink Poetry Prize, the Furious Flower Poetry Prize, and CLA’s Margaret Walker Memorial Prize, and other honors. She is a Callaloo, Tin House, and Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg fellow whose work has appeared in Boston Review, Massachusetts Review, Ninth Letter, and elsewhere, and she serves as the interviews editor for Honey Literary. Diamond holds an MFA from The University of Alabama and a PhD in creative writing with concentrations in African American poetics and fat studies from Florida State University. She is an assistant professor at North Carolina State University.
