Dancing the Revolution! A workshop with the New York Baroque Dance Company
About this Event
Step into the world of George Washington and the early years of the nation as we learn social dances enjoyed in eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century America, including dances to the music of Francis Johnson, the celebrated American composer and bandleader whose music brought the whole nation to the dance floor.
In this participatory event, we'll practice elegant figures and spirited steps to live music, just as communities have done at Morris-Jumel Mansion since the mid-18th Century.
Whether you're entirely new to dance or a seasoned reveler, this workshop will bring the revolutionary ballroom to life, the confidence to shine on the dance floor and, if you wish, earn you free admission to NYBDC's Annual Community Ball on June 28. More information about the ball on 6/28: nybaroquedance.org/dancing-the-revolution/
Accompanied by Music of the Regiment. Costumes admired but not required!
This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Council Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and Medical Center Neighborhood Fund.
