She is a well-known seminar teacher in the US and Canada and much coveted instructor in her own school of dance and theater performance.
Do not miss a chance to study with her in a two- and one-half hour class as she presents, powerful dynamics and techniques of Ibrahim Farrah, and introduction to the choreography of Ayeela Tayeha, “Lost Daughter” a shabbi song sung by Ahmed Adaweya. We are confident you will benefit from her energy, expertise, and dynamic approach to performance. We hope you join us for the day and evening.
Lauren, Tennessee
We are pleased to present Lauren Elise Peterson, MS. BC -DMT as she teaches this class on body image, at Dancing at the Bazaar 2025. It is surely a topic of great interest.
While dance can be incredible for body image, ever-changing beauty standards can impact a dancer's relationship with their body, especially over time. As dancers age and experience body changes, our insecurities can get very loud and make dance difficult. In this workshop, Lauren will lead dancers through a discussion on body image issues that can emerge for dancers over their dance careers. Lauren will use her somatic experiential techniques to help dancers learn skills and gain appreciation for their bodies.
Lauren is a board-certified dance/movement therapist specializing in healing body image issues and coping with burnout through somatic techniques. Her belly dance beginnings started in 2003 in Chattanooga, TN, and she immediately found it to be transformative to her relationship to her body.
Since 2011 she has been working in the eating disorder field and currently works as an outpatient therapist, a dance/movement therapist for inpatient and intensive outpatient mental health programs, and a body image and burnout coach. Lauren has a book about healing through movement coming soon, You can follow her at www.laurenelisepeterson.com and @laurenelisepeterson on Instagram and TikTok.
Alima, Georgia brings 71 years of theater, voice, and dance experience to the stage this year. She has participated in every aspect of Middle Eastern dance for 47 years and has established a reputation for vivacious solo performances in workshops, ethnic festivals, restaurants, Clemson University, civic, and charity events.
She has won awards for her drum solo performance,2010,Black Orchard , troupe performance(Folkloric) ,Illinois and Kentucky 1980s , costume and choreography and has been the director of several dance troupes. She is currently co-director for Troupe Banat Al Wadi and two of her choreographies as performed by them won First Place Troupe (Ghawazee)2024 and Second Place solo (Raqs Sharqi ) 2023 competition at Festival on the Nile in Florida. As an instructor she has taught workshops in the USA and dance schools in South Carolina and Georgia.
She will start off the day with a two-hour class on Saidi styling, featuring steps and combos. Some of the combos are from the inspirational dancers ie, Mahmoud Reda, Raqia Hassan and Tito all of Egypt.
