Dance Workshop: Spirals in Motion

What is the workshop about?

Drawing from bellydance, contemporary dance techniques, and somatic practices, we will investigate how circles and spirals can organize a body in motion. Through guided explorations, we will experiment with these geometries starting from the center of the body and expanding outward, allowing movement to emerge from breath, sensation, and the body’s natural impulses in a simple, conscious, and organic way.

The practice focuses on the fluidity of movement, the continuity between gestures, and the connection between different parts of the body. We will explore how the body engages in a constant dialogue between grounding, reaching into space, contracting, and opening. Circular and spiral movements will serve as tools to access qualities such as softness, strength, and expressiveness, enhancing body awareness and a more attentive, vibrant presence in movement.

Open to anyone interested in exploring the body in motion, this workshop values process over form, inviting each participant to discover, at their own pace, a way of moving that is more authentic, creative, and free.

This workshop is an invitation to curiosity, the joy of moving, and the development of a deeper awareness of the body as something alive and constantly transforming in space.

Level: Open to all levels; no prior dance experience required

Who is the proponent?

Paloma Durante is an artist, educator, writer, and performer whose practice unfolds in the space between art and pedagogy. Drawing on processes of mediation, encounter, and collective experience, she explores how art can operate as a shared practice - one that generates learning, care, and transformation.

She has worked with institutions such as the São Paulo Biennial Foundation, SESC-SP, and the Ema Klabin Foundation, developing projects that invite audiences to take part in experimental, participatory forms of creation. Her work brings together performance, walking practices, writing, and the design of participatory devices. In the field of movement, she studied classical ballet, contemporary dance techniques, and bellydance, becoming a professional in the latter.

Paloma is a two-time recipient of the New Perspectives Award from MIS-SP to innovative proposals in arts and education, and her research has been recognized through publications and international residencies.
