DANCE OF CONSCIOUSNESS

Workshop Description:

In the cosmology of Samkhya's philosophy, pure consciousness evolves and manifests itself through the five elements: ether/space, air, fire, water, and earth. These cosmic elements are represented in our physical, psycho-emotional, mental, sensory and energetic aspects.

In this experiential, embodied, and holistic workshop, participants will be guided in exploring their inner landscape through dance, self-reflection, and creativity. They will also be introduced to the philosophical framework behind the practice and begin to make connections between their movement and the physical, emotional, and mental states of their being.

Embodying the qualities of the elements through dance - the heaviness of the earth, fluidity of water, intensity of fire, lightness of air, and expansiveness of either/space –we will begin to entangle the stories our bodies hold, fine-tune our senses and self-awareness, and develop a deeper connection to our bodily and intuitive wisdom as well as our creative expression.

Tri-guna-s and their relation to our perception

Experiential inquiry of five elements through dance and guided movement practice

What to bring?

Please wear loose and comfortable clothing which allows you to move freely. [ The studio has two changerooms ]. Also, bring a journal and a pen/pencil for self-reflection. You may also wish to bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated.

About the facilitator:

Jelena is a creator, educator, and facilitator of the Dance of Consciousness- a self-transformative journey through dance, inquiry, and creativity. With an insatiable curiosity about the complexity, intricacy, and interconnectedness of human experience and the nature of the universe, Jelena has been conducting an interdisciplinary study and research that address some of these concepts through dance and yogic studies, metaphysics, consciousness, subtle anatomy, Eastern philosophy, eco-spirituality, Jungian psychology, mythology, and art and creativity.

With a background in contemporary dance and yoga, 18 years of teaching experience, and a Master of Education in transformation, embodiment, and spirituality in adult education, Jelena has been developing self-transformative programs which help others reconnect to their creativity, intuition and bodily wisdom, discover their infinite potential and power, and gain a deeper understanding of their true nature. Over the years, she conducted an independent research project exploring dance's transformative power, taught international students in Canada, South Korea, and the Philippines, and presented at conferences and festivals in Croatia, Hawai'i, and Canada.
