A Mandala is a container, a circle, it is the Sun, the Moon, you. This is a wellbeing practice where we will be using the FatChanceBellyDance Style format as Sacred Dance, Seasonal Yoga and Pranayama to come together to move in space, creating a Mandala.We will use Asanas and FatChanceBellydance vocabulary to work through our Chakras, from Root- Muladhara, through Sacral – Svadhishthana and Solar Plexus – Manipura to Heart – Anahata. Each week will be dedicated to a Chakra. We will then dance connecting with all these Chakras together. Our final session will integrate a Dancing in the Flow section.
We will be using Seasonal Yoga in our warm-up, transitioning from Early Summer to Summer.
Dance Mandala class suitable for beginners and intermediate dancers, Mondays, 6.45pm-8pm, Front Street, Acomb.

I have been dancing FatChanceBellyDance for about 20 years now I think, got my Teacher’s Certificate in 2014, became an Awakened Bellydance practitioner in 2017 and qualified as a Seasonal Yoga Teacher in March this year. I’m also an Art Therapist with a career spanning over 20 years. I am excited to put all my knowledge together in offering Dance Mandala.
You will be learning FatChanceBellyDance Style, approaching the dance from its Spiritual and Sacred facets. I will be holding monthly performance workshops you’ll be able to join if you wish to take your dance that avenue to join Karuna.
The image used for this event was created by me for a group performance @skillsnzills in 2024. Dancers from several nations, some who’d never met, performed together at the show. That’s the amazing beauty and power of FatChanceBellyDance; it’s an improvised dance form where we use our shared vocabulary. My memory is that we created something sacred and it felt apt to use the image for Dance Mandala.
