Lit Whanganui Booklovers Festival welcomes Dame Anne Salmond as our Opening Night guest.
Dame Anne Salmond is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s most distinguished scholars and public intellectuals. An acclaimed anthropologist, historian, and writer, her influential works – including Hui, Amiria, The Trial of the Cannibal Dog, and Tears of Rangi – explore the cultural encounters between Māori and European worlds. She has worked closely with Māori communities throughout her career and is committed to dialogue grounded in mutual respect. Dame Anne is a Distinguished Professor at the University of Auckland and has received numerous honours, including the Prime Minister’s Award for Literary Achievement and the Order of New Zealand – the country’s highest honour. Her latest book, Knowledge Is a Blessing on Your Mind, reflects on a lifetime of scholarship and advocacy.
We are honoured to welcome Dame Anne as
our opening night speaker, in conversation with Dr Bronwyn Labrum, Director of the Whanganui Regional Museum.
Tickets: $15 presale; $20 door sales
