Damascus Knife Workshop
About this Event
This is a Four-Day Intermediate Knife Making Workshop divided into two weekend workshops.
Part I: Forge Weld a Damascus Billet + Hammer Out a Knife Blank
Day One:
· Familiarize yourself by practicing a forge weld in our coke forges
· Forge weld your billet (we provide a prepared stack of 1084 and 15n20)
· Manipulate the billet to achieve a desired pattern
· Research and draw proposed knife design to scale
Day Two:
· Forge a knife blank, sand, polish and etch to reveal the finished pattern
· Re-visit the design and refine
· Heat treating stage one: Normalize
· Choose material for scales and pins
Part II: Grind + Heat Treat + Sharpen + Handle it
Day Three:
· Grind the profile
· Grind the primary bevel
· Grind tang flat and parallel
· Harden and temper
· Cut scales, lay out and drill for pins
Day Four:
· Pre- assemble and refine as needed
· Cut pins
· Sand, polish and etch
· Final assembly
· Final sharpening
Class runs from 9am-5pm with a 1h lunch.
Lunch is available in town / an indoor lunch area with a microwave and fridge is provided on site if you bring your own food.
Please wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
