About Chris McNutt:
Chris McNutt is the President of Texas Gun Rights, the Lone Star State’s leading no-compromise gun rights organization, representing more than 500,000 members and supporters committed to defending the Second Amendment.
Since joining Texas Gun Rights in 2016 and becoming President in 2023, McNutt has emerged as one of the most outspoken and effective advocates for restoring and protecting the right to keep and bear arms in Texas. Under his leadership, Texas Gun Rights has mobilized grassroots gun owners across the state to hold politicians accountable and advance pro-gun reforms.
McNutt played a key role in the years-long fight to pass Constitutional Carry, culminating in the signing of HB 1927 in 2021, which restored the right of law-abiding Texans to carry a handgun without a permit. He also helped lead the charge to ban “red flag” gun confiscation orders, resulting in the passage of SB 1362 in 2025, preventing Texas courts from enforcing unconstitutional gun confiscation schemes.
McNutt’s advocacy extends well beyond Texas. Prior to leading Texas Gun Rights, he served as Deputy Director of Field Operations for the National Association for Gun Rights, where he helped build grassroots gun rights movements and advance pro-Second Amendment legislation in more than a dozen states including Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Montana, and Oklahoma.
His work defending the Second Amendment has drawn national attention, including being featured on the cover of Time Magazine’s “Guns in America” issue.
A longtime North Texas resident, McNutt has been active in Texas politics for over 15 years, including working for the office of former State Senator Don Huffines. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas at Dallas and lives in Parker County with his wife, their three children, and their German Shepherd.
