Daitoryu aikijujutsu Soden seminar

Daitoryu Soden Kenkyukai is a research group dedicated to preserving and transmitting Daitoryu in its traditional, original form — the art taught by Takeda Sokaku and Ueshiba Morihei at the Asahi Newspaper headquarters in Osaka.

Training is based on a set of exercises for developing specific qualities of body and mind, as well as on a large and diverse arsenal of techniques compiled in what are known as the Soden volumes.

Volumes 1–5 contain techniques originally received from Ueshiba Morihei, and this collection is known as Aikido. Volume 6 contains the advanced techniques of Ueshiba Morihei under the name Asahiryu. Volumes 7–9 contain techniques transmitted by Takeda Sokaku.

Takeda Sokaku forbade the recording or filming of his techniques, showing them only once and explaining nothing. For this reason, while some of the Asahi Dojo students accompanied Takeda Sokaku to the bath, the other students photographed the techniques they had studied using a camera to which the Asahi Newspaper staff had access. This played an important role in preserving a large arsenal of unique techniques transmitted by Takeda Sokaku.

Subsequently, the head of this group and dojo, Takuma Hisa, became the only official holder of menkyo kaiden (full transmission).
