Cycle Maintenance: Gears and brakes

This is a Beginner / Intermediate level class that covers the basics of keeping your gears and brakes functioning well. You’ll learn how to:

• troubleshoot problems with your gears and brakes
• keep your drivetrain and brakes in good working order
• check and replace your brake pads
• adjust gears and brakes and replace cables

This is a hands-on class so please bring your bike that you can practice on. You can stay until 9pm and use the Cycle Kitchen tools if you want to do any additional work on your bike.

This class is open to ETL members and non-members!

Cost of any parts purchased during the session not included.

• Bring your own cycle (bike, trike, wheelchair, unicycle ...) to work on.

Cancelling

• Out of courtesy to volunteers please cancel your booking 48 hours in advance.
• This will give us the opportunity to offer the spot to another attendee and make the most of the time our volunteers are offering!

• The session will take place in the ETL Meadowbank Hub, 121 Lawrie Reilly Place, EH7 5GS.
• The shop is best accessed via the cycle-pedestrian path south of the railway bridge overpass.

**** NOTE: Please notify us before booking a ticket for a minor. The workshops at the Edinburgh Tool Library are for participants age 18 or over but we might welcome minors 15 - 17 when accompanied by a parent/guardian. We will consider if the workshop is appropriate for a minor and reserve the right to confirm or cancel the booking. Thank you for your understanding and please do get in touch beforehand.
