Join artist Hannah Ayre, to try this camera-free, alternative photography technique. Developed by 19th century scientists, and embraced by botanists. This technique was immediately adopted for creative purposes and it continues to inspire artists today. You will learn about the history and chemistry of the process, before undertaking a series of your own experiments. We will explore the garden and create photographic prints of the plants we find.
You will work with papers which has been pre-prepared by Hannah, using the safe, iron based solutions.
While this technique relies on exposing our prints to sunlight, we also have a UV lamp, in case the Scottish weather isn’t smiling on us.
Hannah grew up with photography. With her dad spending his career with Kodak, she was never far from a camera. She has a degree in ceramics, specialising in experimental, outdoor, alternative firing processes. Her adventures in alternative photography techniques were a natural progression.
In recent years she has been award funding to undertake an Eco Darkroom course at Stills photographic gallery. She has also undertaken a residency at Cove Park, to further her learning. She has been working with cyanotypes for over 15 years and has a wealth of experience to share with you.
Suitable for ages 7+
This workshop is funded by The National Lottery heritage Fund and therefore FREE for all guests!
