MEETING POINT is at the Memorial. Park on the brow of the hill and walk to the Memorial and adjacent Chattri by following the sign-posted footpath. Please allow 40 minutes to walk across the fields to reach the site.

During the tour you will learn about the history of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. The Memorial commemorates fifty-three men of the Indian Army who died and were cremated at Patcham Down ghat during the First World War in accordance with Hindu and Sikh religious rites. These soldiers had all been transferred to hospital in Brighton after fighting on the Western Front in 1914/15.

The tour lasts approx. 40 mins (not allowing for the walk to the memorial) and covers about 8000 metres across fields on unevenground with hills and slopes.

There is limited parking available on the brow of the hill. There are no facilities or toilets on site.

Please come dressed for the weather and in a suitable walking shoes.

Well behaved dogs on a lead are allowed on site.

Please note there can be last minute cancellations. This can be due to various reasons including illness, site issues and weather. We will email you as soon as we can, but this could include the morning of the tour, so please check your emails prior to leaving for the tour.

The Commonwealth War Graves Foundation (CWGF) aims to actively engage all communities with the work of the CWGC by telling the inspiring stories through education and outreach projects.

The CWGF is an independent charity registered with the Charity Commission of England and Wales (1171947) and Scotland (SC051982).
