Cutting Edge: Regent's Canal

The first spadeful for its construction may have been dug, today, in 1812 very near the Library. The two centuries since have witnessed crime, hoaxes, fraud, thieving, fights, explosions, comedy, dramas and tragedies.

Lester Hillman has been writing, lecturing and leading walks about the colourful canal history. More than half a century ago he worked on award winning towpath access in Regent's Park.

Local and Community History Month is an annual, month-long celebration held across the United Kingdom every May.
