About this Event
Curious kids love mud, bugs, and animals—and this hands-on class brings it all together, with tons of fascinating information! We’re diving into the life cycle of native frogs and toads and discovering why these quiet creatures are some of the most important helpers to the plants in our gardens. Just because it is cold and dormant outside, doesn't mean we should stop with hands-on garden & nature learning!
Kids will get hands-on with:
- Building the frog life cycle using modeling clay
- Creating a “soil snack” cup to mimic healthy soil layers (yes, even frog poop on top!)
- Learning how frogs protect worms, plants, and gardens without chemicals
- Going home with a toad house and the knowledge of how to "build it"
- Facepainting at the end to go home like the frogs they just learned about!
This playful, science-rich class helps kids understand ecosystems in a way that’s fun, memorable, and a little delightfully gross ... in the best way.
Every attendee will follow along to sculpt the lifecycle of a frog using modeling clay, make a "snack soil/compost cup" out of tasty treats like cookie crumbs for the dirt, pretzels for sticks, and gummy worms for, well, worms, and chocolate chips for frog poop :)
Perfect for budding naturalists, gardeners, and curious minds who love to learn by doing, and for kids who've yet to take interest, it will be a lively mix of learning, laughter, and discovery for all, just like a day in the garden should be! This workshop will leave them buzzing with excitement and with a new appreciation for the creatures that share this area as their home.
