Curio Reads Book Club: When Trees Testify by Beronda L. Montgomery
📍 Whose Books | Dallas, TX
📅 Thursday, March19 | 7:00 PM

Join us for Curio Reads Book Club, a space for curious minds, critical thinkers, and community-centered readers.

This month, we’re discussing When Trees Testify: Science, Wisdom, History, and America’s Black Botanical Legacy by Beronda L. Montgomery—a powerful and illuminating work that uncovers the deep-rooted connections between Black history, botanical knowledge, and survival.

Through science, storytelling, and cultural history, Montgomery reveals how botanical expertise was not only central to Black life before and after emancipation, but also foundational to resilience, innovation, and community care.

“Botanical knowledge, Montgomery argues persuasively, was intrinsic to Black people’s survival and sustenance before and after emancipation. A fresh perspective on Black history.” — Kirkus Reviews

Together, we’ll explore themes of environmental justice, ancestral knowledge, scientific contribution, and the overlooked intersections between nature and liberation.
