Curators talk: The Winter Exhibition Series

Join MPRG Curator Rebecca Owens on a walk through the Winter exhibitions to hear about Natalia Milosz-Piekarska's stunning foyer show Sifted Light, Helen Britton's The Story So Far and MPRG's own collection show, In the Company of Animals.
In Sifted Light, contemporary jeweller and artist Natalia Milosz-Piekarska translates the raw beauty of the Mornington Peninsula into a poetic collection of sculptural and wearable works. Guided by her deep connection to the land and sea, and shaped by years of craftsmanship and material experimentation, Natalia’s abstracted works seek to capture fleeting, luminous moments where light, texture, and wonder meet.

Helen Britton: The Story So Far is part of the Living Treasures: Masters of Australian Craft touring exhibition which celebrates Australia’s leading craft practitioners. The tenth artist in the series, internationally acclaimed Australian artist Helen Britton presents new paintings, installations, jewellery, drawings and objects. Inspired by visits to her great-aunt and godmother Kath Carr’s home on the Clarence River (Ngunitiji, Yaegl Country), the exhibition explores the creativity of country women and includes the first presentation of the photographic series My Godmother’s House.

In the Company of Animals: Animals in the MPRG Collection brings together works from across MPRG's Permanent Collection to explore how animals have been represented in Australian art over almost two centuries. Spanning three gallery spaces and tracing works chronologically from 1825 to 2024, the exhibition shows shifting artistic approaches to the animal as subject, symbol, companion, and metaphor.
