About this Event
Join us at CULT Aimee Friberg on Thursday, January 23, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM for a curatorial walk-through of Nicki Green's Eye of the Fountain, in tandem with a selection of works from her solo exhibition Firmament at the Contemporary Jewish Museum.
Firmament Curator Heidi Rabben (formerly senior curator at the CJM) and Eye of the Fountain curator Aimee Friberg will provide insights into Green's intricate exploration of queer and trans embodiment, sacred ritual, and semiotic coding. This is a unique opportunity to view artworks from the two exhibitions in conversation with each other and to hear from Nicki Green (joining remotely) about her conception of these prescient exhibitions.
Says Green in a statement about the work, "Trans embodiment and trans materiality offer us ways in which we can understand ourselves connected to other people and other organisms in the world. Just as the mycelial network (the largest living organism on earth) which connects fungi to other organisms like trees, creates a reciprocal framework of exchanging nutrients, a divine trans embodiment positions this fluidity and interconnectedness as holy. It allows us to explore the ways in which it is not only morally important to act in solidarity across difference, it is sacred to do so."
This adapted iteration of Eye of the Fountain is open through February 7, 2024. The Contemporary Jewish Museum closed its doors to the public temporarily in December 2024.
