Join Dr. Ann Marshall, Heard Museum Director of Research, for a 30-minute curator talk reflecting on the museum’s rich history as it approaches its 100th anniversary. Heard Museum History in the 1929 Gallery traces the decades from the museum’s founding in 1929 through the present day, highlighting the vision of Maie Bartlett Heard and Dwight Bancroft Heard, whose global travels inspired their collection of Indigenous art and led them to create a museum adjacent to their home.
The exhibition also features sculpture by leading American Indian artists Allan Houser (Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache), his son Bob Haozous (Warm Springs Chiricahua Apache), and Doug Hyde (Nez Perce/Assiniboine/Chippewa), offering visitors a chance to see these masterful works alongside the story of the museum’s evolution.
On your way home, pick up a copy of the Heard Museum History & Collections book, written by Dr. Marshall, at the Heard Museum bookstore.
Included with museum admission and FREE for members. Tour meets at the Info Desk.
