About this Event
Join us on Thursday, Nov. 13, 6:30-8pm at The New Parkway Theater for an evening celebrating the muralists of Oakland and the stories they tell. The Oaklandside’s Culture Makers will explore the history, vision, and spirit behind some of the city’s most iconic murals — and the artists whose work captures the heart and soul of Oakland.
Moderated by Azucena Rasilla, The Oaklandside’s arts and community reporter, the conversation will feature David Burke, founder of Hungry Ghost Productions, a Bay Area mural collective dedicated to diversity, social justice, and creative collaboration; Agana, an acclaimed multi-dimensional artist who merges large-scale murals and contemporary street art as powerful calls to action; and Andre Jones (Natty Rebel), the creative force behind the Bay Area Mural Program (BAMP), which uses public art as a tool for education, empowerment, and community connection.
Together, they’ll discuss how murals document history, reflect community identity, and continue to inspire pride and change across Oakland. Plus a live performance by the Edna Brewer String Quartet!
Don’t miss this colorful conversation honoring art, the power of public space and the communities that bring Oakland’s stories to life.
