Culture & Cocktails: Secrets of the Catoctin-South Mountain Corridor
About this Event
Join the WCHS at the Miller House on Friday, February 12, for a Culture & Cocktails lecture, "The Secrets of the Catoctin-South Mountain Corridor," presented by Chris Hill.
This talk explores how the Catoctin–South Mountain region became a connected national-security landscape during World War II and the early Cold War. From Camp Ritchie and OSS training sites to Camp David, Fort Detrick, and Raven Rock, the program traces how military intelligence, clandestine operations, presidential security, and continuity planning took root in the same mountain corridor—and why this region proved so useful again and again.
The program's speaker, Chris Hill, is the founder of Mountain Spies, a historical research and tour company focused on World War II clandestine and military intelligence and the Cold War history of the Catoctin–South Mountain corridor. He combines archival research, local knowledge, and a professional background in intelligence and national security.
Culture & Cocktails is generously sponsored by the James & Mary Schurz Foundation. Doors open at 5:30 PM and the program begins at 6:00 PM. Refreshments and drinks available, with each attendee receiving a drink ticket at the door. The evening's cocktaill will be announced closer to the program!
