Cultural Humility in Work with Survivors
About this Event
This workshop will highlight the histories of racialized gendered violence that survivors of color face in the US and how service providers can meet these intersectional experiences with cultural humility: a lifelong commitment and practice in continuous self-education of cultures and experiences other than our own. We will dive deep into how Black, Asian, Indigenous, Latine, Muslim, and immigrant women in the US are impacted by misogyny and racism at institutional and interpersonal levels. Participants will gain knowledge in best service practices through hands-on scenario practice and practical insight into serving diverse clients.
This free in-person event is appropriate for social service professionals and includes 2.0 free CE clock hours for social workers, professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, and nurses. This training satisfies the State of Illinois Cultural Competence training requirement for mental health counselor licensure renewal as noted on the IMHCA website. Continental breakfast will be available from 8:30-9:00 am. Advance registration is requested as seating for this event is limited.
Attendees are encouraged to bring personal hygiene products (soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc.), paper products, or diapers to donate to the Maine Township Food Pantry.
