The Five Spiritual Powers are:
- Faith
- Energy/Effort
- Mindfulness
- Concentration
- Wisdom
On a path of awakening, we come to recognize the changing and unpredictable nature of human life. Through awareness practice, we awaken to the vulnerability of the body, our emotional life, and the external conditions that humans face in a world that is often driven by greed, hatred, and delusion.
And yet through our dharma practice and by cultivating and bringing into balance these five spiritual powers, we develop the capacity for inner strength, clarity of mind, and a resilient heart.
And with a more resilient heart, we learn to respond with greater equanimity and compassion, enabling us to be a reliable resource for others facing the many challenges of human life.
Michael Grady began practicing Insight Meditation with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg in 1974 when they first returned from Asia. He is a Senior teacher at the Insight Meditation Society and was a Guiding Teacher at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center for two decades before moving several years ago to Western Massachusetts. Michael is currently on the Guiding Teacher Council at Insight Western Ma.
