We are inviting you to a 2 days workshop with Helena Kallner, taking place in Budapest on 15-16th February, 2025.This workshop will explore a somatic and developmental approach to working with body and movement in client-practitioner relationship.
Working in interpersonal professions – such as psychotherapy, coaching or consulting – requires the ability to discern how to act in relation to the uniqueness of each situation. In gestalt therapy this capacity is often referred to as the aesthetic criterion, a bodily form of knowing that is felt and sensed within the unfolding dynamic of the professional encounter.
When aspects of knowing that reside in lived bodily experiences are not articulated and valued as real knowledge, there is a risk that they become silenced. When this happens, rather than being recognized as a core element of professional wisdom, these aspects are referred to as vague, mysterious and as if unreliable.
In this experiential workshop, we will explore the role of movement and kinesthetic resonance as essential foundations of both experience and knowing. We will inquire into that which we know before we consciously know it, and attend to how emerging body-to-body dynamics between professional practitioners and clients reveal existential themes, and inform interventions.
Participants will practice to pay close attention to their moving-feeling-sensing experience in relation to others. Using a phenomenological and developmental lens, we will bring theory into practice to deepen attunement and responsiveness in professional work.
This approach to gestalt therapy is inspired and informed by the innovative work of Ruella Frank, who developed Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™.
Trainer: Helena Kallner, EAGT and UKCP registered psychotherapist, practices gestalt psychotherapy in Stockholm. She is a full member of the New York Institute for Gestalt therapy and serves as a senior teacher and supervisor of Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy™. Her PhD thesis, Forming form. How movement shapes psychotherapists’ practical knowledge, investigates the role of movement in psychotherapy.
The workshop will be in English.
