Academy Award nominated director Todd Haynes’ (May December), Academy Award nominated musical-drama VELVET GOLDMINE, is an outrageous and lavish dreamscape where every shot is full of glamour.
Glam rock star Brian Slade (Golden Globe winner Jonathan Rhys Myers) plays a character on stage named Maxwell Demon who predicts his death on stage. Shortly after he announces his prediction, he fakes his own death and is exposed as a fraud. A decade later in 1984, a reporter and former fan, Arthur Stuart (Academy Award winner Christian Bale), tracks down the former rocker to do an article on his life and downfall. Arthur interviews the man who discovered Slade and a peer to understand Slade's motivations.
Featuring an all-star ensemble cast, including Golden Globe winner Ewan McGregor and Academy Award nominee Toni Collette, VELVET GOLDMINE is an alluring and dazzling love letter to 1970s glam-rock, emphasising that we must remember, at all costs, the stories of our communities.
