Yorgos Lanthimos returns with Bugonia, a sharp, destabilising reworking of the South Korean cult film Save the Green Planet!. Blending paranoia, absurdist humour, and social alienation, the film follows two conspiracy-obsessed men who become convinced that a powerful corporate executive is an alien intent on destroying Earth. What begins as dark comedy steadily mutates into something more unsettling and morally ambiguous.
As with Lanthimos’ best work, Bugonia thrives on discomfort - skewering power structures, obsession, and modern masculinity while refusing easy empathy. Stylised, cruelly funny, and deliberately off-kilter, it sits comfortably alongside Dogtooth and The Lobster as another provocation disguised as genre cinema.
