About this Event

Join us for an evening viewing of three independent films about the 1745 Jacobite Rising and the Battle of Culloden.

Culloden has been featured in media through stories, articles, and with the advent of moving pictures, film. We'll explore three very different interpretations of a turbulent period of Scottish history.

Chemins Anciens: les Highlands en 1744!

Chemins Anciens (Old Paths) is a documentary project focused on archaeological experimentation and the rediscovery of ancient techniques, technologies, and ways of life. Through hands-on research and historical reconstruction, we explore the past by experimenting with traditional methods and, above all, by rediscovering walking as an ancient way of travelling and experiencing the world. Everything is made collectively by our members, from handcrafted costumes to the experiments themselves.

Cùil Lodair: A short film

Bringing to life the story of a soldier returning from Cùil Lodair (Culloden) — a tale of loss, identity, and the Highland Clearances.

Our short film explores the aftermath of the Battle of Culloden, Blàr Chùil Lodair - a brutal turning point in Scottish history. It follows a Highland soldier returning home to find his world destroyed: his clan scattered, his land taken, and his culture outlawed. Through his journey, we explore themes of war, loss, and the erasure of Highland identity. Written in a mixture of Scottish Gaelic and English to give authenticity and realism to our story.

The Last Highlander

The Last Highlander is an epic and melancholic tale, at the crossroads between historical drama and legend. Through the eyes of a survivor haunted by his past, the film explores memory, honour, and the legacy of a people doomed to vanish. More than a historical reconstruction, the film offers a sensory experience in which nature, light, and silence become witnesses to a vanished world.

Disclaimer: Given the subject matter of the films, there are scenes with depictions of violence. We recommend children aged 16 and under are accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Parking is included in your Eventbrite reservation.

The cafe will be open with a limited drinks menu starting 30 minutes before the screening begins.
