A Word from the Director:
I am absolutely honored to be able to bring this story to life on stage; the adaptation of one of my favorite childhood movies, both based on the incredible book of the same title. The Neverending Story shares an epic adventure of a young boy who finds himself immersed in an adventure filled with fantastical characters, dangerous encounters, imaginative and creative tapestries of a fantasy realm that come to life as he is reading the book. Not to mention a great quest to save Fantastica and its’ child-like empress! Also, there’s a luck dragon—how COOL is that!

Open auditions for ages 7-18
Friday, January 31, 2025 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm
Saturday, February 1, 2025 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Casting Notes:
*Indicates characters that cannot be doubled
**The Nothing-it is the director’s idea to have 4 ensemble, dressed in all black and masked. They dance with a black fabric, and envelop their victim (aka destroy it).
Main Characters:
*Bastian - a boy of ten. Bastion is picked on and retreats to his school’s attic after “borrowing” a magnificent looking book. Bastion loves books, but they have to be good books! Fantasy and adventure are his favorite. Bastion remains on stage for the majority of the play, mostly narrative, some interaction with the other characters.
*Gmork - a werewolf. Gmork is the general that ushers in The Nothing. He has no hope and is death.
*Atreyu - a hunter. Young teen, hunts for his tribe. Slightly arrogant, determined, not the best hunter. Accepts a great quest. Learns a valuable lesson.
*Artax - a horse. Talks. Atreyu’s BFF.
*Falkor - a luck dragon. Can fly. A gentle creature, very silly. Not a dog!
Supporting Characters:
Morla the Ancient One - a giant turtle, a very, very, very, very ancient-tired turtle. (one scene)
Ygramul the Many - a spider queen whom has 2 minions-wants to K*ll Atreyu. And Falkor. Might be crazy. (one scene)
Engywook - a gnome, married to Urgl. Very excitable to help Atreyu. Has cool gadgets. (one scene)
Urgl - a gnome, married to Engywook. Very excitable to help Atreyu. Has cool gadgets. (one scene)
Uyulala - oracle, wise, a being of sound and light (one scene)
Childlike Empress. (one scene)

Bastian’s Father, Bullies, The Caretaker, Elders, Cairon, Eribo, Sassafranians, sphynxes, The Nothing**, geese, winds giants, maya & her entourage.
