About this Event
Join us for a site tour of the Dawson Bridge Rehabilitation Project, a major heritage rehabilitation currently underway in the City of Edmonton.
Project Profile – Dawson Bridge Rehabilitation:
The Dawson Bridge is a five-span through-truss bridge, carrying two lanes of traffic over the North Saskatchewan River, connecting the Forest Heights neighborhood and Riverside Golf Course on the east with Jasper Avenue and the Riverdale neighborhood to the west. The bridge was originally constructed in 1912 to serve electric rail traffic to a coal mine on the river’s east bank. Today, it supports vehicular traffic as well as significant pedestrian and cycling use.
The bridge is listed on:
-The Register of Historic Resources in Edmonton, and
-The Alberta Historic Resources Management Branch
To extend the service life of the structure, the City initiated a rehabilitation program that is anticipated to be completed in Spring 2026. Construction is being carried out by Alberco Construction Ltd.
