UTC-05:00
Location

Crossfit Templar | Apple Valley, MN

We’re back for Year 6, and we're bigger than ever! We’re bringing that fierce (but friendly) energy back south of the river with two brand-new ways to play.
For the first time ever, we’re introducing Intermediate (for those "not quite Rx, but way past Scaled" legends) and Masters (because seasoned strength hits different). Grab your same-gender partner, pick your lane, and let’s see who owns the podium!
Join us at CrossFit Templar on September 26th for our celebration of fitness and community!

• FAQ •
Round 6 of this FAQ nonsense to deliver information
We really going to do this?
"there's probably one person that's still into this bit so I guess well inject some joy into that one person's day"
You sent out a survey last year, what'd you do with the results?
"We always like to see where we're at with regards to how the community feels the event runs, it's important to us to address concerns and see if there's an appetite for us to expand or etc. We asked if people would want a Friday workout along with the one day on Saturday and the results were pretty mixed so it didn't seem to make sense there. However, there was an overwhelming amount of responses asking about an intermediate division and we got good feedback on adding masters as well. We've always been hesitant to add too much to this day and slice the pie too many ways because we never want the athlete experience to be diminished. However, we let ourselves be open to the possibility that we could grow the event with new divisions so we're throwing caution to the wind and are just going to run with it.
"Anything else from the survey?"
yeah, we're trying to be better about communicating some things, so our stated tiebreak policy this year is:
head-to-head in workouts
if somehow still tied - 1st place finishes (who had more)
if somehow still tied - Overall time in workouts with time as a score
It shouldn't get to the 3rd level but that should get us a winner.
"Anything else?"
We're going to try and get more videos for standards and etc this year, be on the lookout for some videos in that regard.
"Ok that's all nice, do you have anything new in store for year 6?"
There's been some little changes to our workout planning team, we've added a couple of folks who have a lot of experience competing to help with creating some workouts this year, it's very exciting and I'm hoping the community will like the new challenges we throw at them this go around!
"Are you returning the same core group from last year? They were great!"
You bet, in order to set this date we needed to verify that many of our key volunteers were available and this weekend was the one that worked for them. you'll see our awesome scorekeepers, social media, judges, etc. We have an awesome group and it makes the day really fun with all of them there.
"Will the experience be different?"
The events will be a bit different, but overall you can expect the same great battle experience you've come to expect from us year over year.
"Do I need to have a ton of experience to do this?”
No, but with four divisions there's a lot of ways to play this year. If you're brand new and want to try competing for the first time, our Scaled division might be the best fit for you. If you're more experienced then Intermediate might be a great fit, and if you're a cyborg firebreather who gets done with workouts so fast you need to do more workouts to feel like you did enough in a day, then challenge yourself and go RX. There's a lot of ways to experience the competition this year, but no matter which path you choose we aim to make it a great experience you'll enjoy whether you've never competed before or have competed a lot.
"What about masters, who qualifies for that?"
Oh yeah Masters, We've set Masters at the intermediate level with the following additional requirements:
Each athlete must be at least 35 years old the day of Battle
The total combined age of both athletes must be at least 80
EXAMPLE - if athlete A is 43 and Athlete B is 38, their combined age is 81 and both are at least 35 so they qualify.
"That sounds great will you have sponsors and etc?"
We'll be reaching out to different groups and sponsors per usual, keep checking the event description and social media pages for updates on that. Might take a bit of time but we'll announce them as we find them. If you know someone who'd like to sponsor or would like to sponsor the event yourself, please contact us and we'll get you set up!
"Are you guys ever going to bring back the Mucho Man bit?"
I'm honestly surprised anyone outside of Adam and I even remember Mucho Man at this point. Well, Annie does but she doesn't like to talk about Mucho Man after being forced to play Unkind Gene for a promo.
"Is this the year of RBF?"
Did you think hiding the term Root Beer Float behind an acronym I wouldn't notice? My goodness let it go!
"Where will you guys be releasing details about the competition?"
Things like sponsors and different events will be released on all our pages, competition corner, FB, Insta, make sure to follow all of those as some of them are coming down the pipe soon!
"I thought of a silly name for my team, will I be able to put it on a sign???"
Great! You'll be happy to know that each team will get a sign again this year, along with some other swag and shirts (or a tank).
"I'm a vender and would like to set up a table at the battle to sell stuff"
Sure! We're open to enhancing the experience the day of the competition and would love to discuss a way to make that beneficial for both of us! Please send us an e-mail at [email protected] or fire us a message on Facebook.
"So, a few years ago, I made a lot of friends in the hobby horsing community, they all wanted to check out Battle and cheer me on, can they come and does it cost anything?"
Awesome, you'll be happy to know that we still do not charge admission (because that's silly) and there will be tons of parking available.
"How can I find out details about the competition for that day?"
We'll be posting details for the competition as we go, this includes event announcements, heat times, parking locations, etc.
"I only like competitions if I can set up a tent."
Well, that's a statement and not a question, but you'll be happy to know we typically have a tent city on the side of the building! Set up tents and hang out between heats!
"I like it when I know some things but not everything about a competition"
Well then, you'll be excited to know that while we'll give you the important logistical information (on-site vendors, parking, heat times, etc), some information we'll hold back to keep the day fun! With events in particular we might give you partial information to keep you guessing, the final is always a secret but I expect you all to have fun with it!
"How many teams can register this year?"
we'll max out at 60 teams and depending on the size of the division and timeline we may close a "full" division to keep the day efficient. We care about the experience of the athletes, volunteers, and sponsors, so making the day longer than it needs to be isn't something we're interested in. if your division is full please send us an email and we'll start a waitlist, if it makes sense to add then we will let you know.
"I'd like to volunteer!"
Great, there's a volunteer registration on our event page on breeze scoring! Volunteers will get a shirt, swag, and we'll feed you that day, also give high fives because we're grateful for every volunteer we have!
