About this Event
Learn the basics of crochet in this free 2-hour class for absolute beginners!
Join us at Artsome for a relaxed, hands-on session where you'll learn how to start a project with a slip knot, master the chain stitch, and practice single and double crochet. By the end of class, you'll have a finished swatch and the confidence to keep stitching at home.
We'll also cover how to read simple patterns so you can continue your crochet journey on your own. All supplies are provided. Just bring yourself and a willingness to learn!

Getting Started: Slip Knot & Chain Stitch
Info: Learn how to begin any crochet project with a slip knot, then dive into the chain stitch. This is the most important stitch to practice as a beginner! Chaining over and over helps you build control over your hook, learn how to guide the yarn through your non-dominant hand, and develop consistent tension. We'll take our time here so you feel comfortable before moving on.

Turning & Single Crochet
Info: We will introduce the single crochet stitch, the building block of many projects. You will practice stitching in rows and start building your practice swatch. We will also cover how to turn your work and start a new row.

Info: We will introduce the double crochet stitch, a taller stitch that opens up more project possibilities.

Finishing & Pattern Reading
Info: Learn how to fasten off and weave in your ends to finish your swatch. We will also spend extra time introducing basic pattern reading, including common abbreviations, how to read parentheses and brackets, and walking through a simple written pattern so you can continue on your own with confidence.
