KCAC Critique Nite!
Critique night is for emerging and established artists who wish to have an honest discussion of their work with their professional peers. Each critique night will be (2-3) hours long, in which 3 artists will be able to present their work and concepts for discussion in a low-stakes public format.
Each critique night will be hosted and facilitated by Thayer Bray, Director of Exhibitions, a local art professional, who will help inform and guide discussion. The goal of these discussions is to support artists in clearly communicating their ideas and concepts, building confidence in public speaking, and receiving honest—sometimes challenging—but always constructive feedback on individual works and emerging directions. These conversations aim to strengthen each artist’s conceptual clarity, communication skills, and technical momentum.
Artists who wish to have their work critiqued must fill out the form HERE. Artists will be selected by KCAC staff and the facilitating art professional, and informed before the event.
Critiques occur every 7 weeks. There will be 5 Critique Nights a year.
Juried-in artist will present their work with a brief "Elevator Pitch" of statement and bio, and optionally ask for specific tdiscussion points. The facilitator and art professional will guide a ~45 minute converstion about the work, with heavy participation form the audience.
Each critique event is free and open to the public. Tough conversations, honest feedback and constructive criticism aimed at progressing the artists work and concept is the goal. Personal attacks and lazy defamatory rhetoric will not be tolerated.
