Honeychild Coleman will explore seminal records produced by women who have made a big imact on electronic and dub music. Part listening event, part history lesson, this event is sure to educate and inspire!
Honeychild Coleman started her musical career busking in the New York City subway system. From 1998 onward she is a founding member and organizer of the Sistagrrrl Riots, performing experimental electronic music, and more recently fronting the blues-punk outfit The 1865, post-punk trio Bachslider and electro-punk duo GKA. She has worked with The Slits, Mad Professor, Apollo Heights/The Veldt, and Badawi/Raz Mesinai. She appeared in the documentaries Tina Turner: My Songs,My Life, Afro-Punk, Fireflies,Getting My Name up There, Sounds of Justice and Rock Chicks. Her songs have been featured in the film Pariah, and her band The 1865's music in television series Woke! and Everything’s Gonna Be All White. Coleman’s writing appears in RAZORCAKE 'zine Issue #130 (2022) and James Spooner and Chris Terry’s anthology Black Punk Now!(2023)
