[Jim & Lucy are seated at a table, drinking coffee. The police scanner crackles in the background. They are both startled by a recent transmission.]
JIM: (pauses mid-sip) Wait—did you hear that?
LUCY: (leans forward, frowning) Yeah, I did. Something about a crime... in Narnia?
JIM: Yeah, Narnia. That doesn’t sound good. I mean, that place has always been a little... strange, but this—this doesn't sound like your average fairy tale drama.
LUCY: No kidding. The dispatcher said something about a "horrible crime" being committed. And they mentioned Prince Caspian. It really didn’t sound good for him.
JIM: (shakes his head) You think he’s involved? The prince? That’s hard to believe. I mean, I know he’s had some sketchy moments, but—
LUCY: (interrupting, thoughtful) It didn’t exactly sound like he was the victim, either. I’m guessing he’s connected to whatever happened, though. They wouldn’t call in a whole team of detectives for just a routine... incident.
JIM: (frowning) No way. Whatever it is, it’s serious. You can tell from the urgency in the dispatcher’s voice. I mean, Narnia’s supposed to be this magical land, but with Aslan not around, maybe it’s gotten a little... wild?
LUCY: (nodding, concerned) Yeah, things have definitely changed. If there’s a real crime scene over there—something major—we need a good team of detectives on it. I just hope whoever's handling this case knows what they’re doing.
JIM: (shrugs) Well, whoever it is, they'd better be up for the task. Narnia’s got its own set of rules. And it's not exactly like there's a normal police force to call in, right? You can’t just ring up the Narnian equivalent of 911.
LUCY: (pensively) Yeah, but if anyone can handle the supernatural weirdness, it’s gotta be the top detectives in the realm. I just hope they're up to the challenge.
JIM: (leaning back, still staring at the scanner) If anyone can get to the bottom of it, it’s probably those two—what’s their names? The ones who helped out with the White Witch and the whole “Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe” fiasco?
LUCY: Oh, you mean Digory and Polly, right? Yeah, they’ve seen some stuff. They’ve dealt with Narnian mysteries before. But... a crime like this? I don’t know. It sounds like more than they’re used to.
JIM: (grimly) Yeah. The way the scanner was describing it... I don’t know how anyone could stay calm in that situation. Whatever happened? It’s big. And Prince Caspian? I just have a feeling this isn't going to end well for him.
LUCY: (sighs) I hope I’m wrong, but it doesn’t sound like things are going to turn around for him. Not unless those detectives get in there fast.
JIM: (glances at the scanner again) Well, here’s hoping they’re good enough to solve it. For his sake—and for Narnia’s.
LUCY: (with a wry smile) Yeah... let’s hope for the best. And if they don't? Well... we’ll be hearing about it, for sure.
[They both fall silent, listening to the faint crackle of the scanner, as the distant sounds of sirens and garbled transmissions fill the room.]
