Am 20. Juni starten wir in unseren Summer of Carpenter. Ab dann präsentieren wir euch eine Auswahl aus der großen Filmografie von John Carpenter. Natürlich können wir euch nicht jeden seiner Filme zeigen, aber zumindest haben wir Escape From New York, Christine, Prince of Darkness, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, They Live, Das Dorf der Verdammten und Ghosts of Mars im Angebot. Wir wollen also keine Beschwerden hören.
Am 11. Juli machen wir mit dem Killerauto Christine weiter. Der Film basiert auf einem Buch von Stephen King. Carpenter und King klingt doch nach einer guten Kombination.
Schüler Arnie Cunningham verliebt sich in "Christine", nicht die lokale Schulschönheit, sondern ein Auto, ein 1958er Plymouth Fury, das seine besten Tage schon hinter sich hat. Mit der Arbeit an dem reparaturbedürftigen Fahrzeug kompensiert Arnie seinen Außenseiterstatus, den er in der Schule innehat. Arnie wird besessen davon, das Auto wieder flott zu machen und in seinen Urzustand zu bringen. Doch dabei verändert sich nicht nur der Wagen, sondern auch er selbst. Zunächst scheint alles nur positive Auswirkungen zu haben. Denn Arnie lässt sich nicht mehr alles gefallen. Sein neues Selbstbewusstsein trägt aber auch negative Züge, weil er nicht mehr so verständnisvoll wie früher ist. Darunter leidet sein Freund Dennis. Als ein paar Rowdys unter Führung Buddy Reppertons den Fehler begehen, sich an "Christine" zu vergreifen, hat das grausame Folgen.

High school student Arnie Cunningham falls in love with "Christine"—not the local school beauty, but a car: a 1958 Plymouth Fury that has seen better days. Working on the vehicle—which is in desperate need of repair—allows Arnie to cope with his status as a school outcast. He becomes obsessed with getting the car running again and restoring it to its original condition. Yet, in the process, it is not just the car that changes, but Arnie himself. At first, the effects seem entirely positive; Arnie stops letting people push him around. However, his newfound self-confidence also has a downside, as he is no longer as understanding as he used to be—something his friend Dennis suffers for. When a group of thugs led by Buddy Repperton makes the mistake of messing with "Christine," the consequences are gruesome.</english>
