Creative Rituals Community | Weston-super-Mare
About this Event
Join us every other Tuesday for a relaxed, welcoming evening of creativity, chats and connection. Bring along an unfinished project, start something new, do some journalling, have a doodle, read or chat about a book, or simply enjoy being with other creative peeps.
Each session has a theme for you to interpret in your own way, and this week's theme will be Light and Shadow.
We're taking inspiration from Mercury Retrograde on 24 Oct. This period symbolises a time to slow down, review, and address unfinished business, rather than push forward with new initiatives.
This Mercury retrograde occurs entirely in Scorpio, which naturally governs hidden truths, and the parts of ourselves we keep in the dark. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Do you love and accept both the light and shadow within you?
For this session you might want to create something that visually represents light and shadow, explore what it means to you through art or writing, get inspired by our recommended book, or consider how creative rituals can help you reflect regularly.
No experience needed, no pressure, no expectation to create a masterpiece. And, we'll be on hand with inspiration if you're stuck for ideas, or want to learn more about slowing down and living seasonally.

Or if you wanted to read something to explore the theme further, the lovely Leah from Very Small Bookshop in Bristol – our venue for the sessions – has recommended Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova, a spectacular debut that pinpoints the precise portrait of being a human. Monstrilio is a thought-provoking meditation on grief, acceptance, and the monstrous sides of love and loyalty that lie within us.
Discounted copies will be available on the night (because reading counts as creativity too!), or you can order online in advance.
What to expect...
We'll start with a short grounding meditation. From there we'll introduce the theme, share some ideas, inspiration, and journalling and creative prompts. Then, we'll settle into making, creating, reflecting, reading, chatting or simply taking some time for yourself.
You're welcome to:
- Journal or write
- Draw, sketch or colour
- Bring a craft project (crochet, embroidery, knitting, etc.)
- Read or reflect
- Talk about our current book, Monstrilio by Gerardo Samano Cordova, suggested by Leah from Very Small Bookshop
- Start something completely new
- Chat to people and make friends
- Do absolutely none of the above and just enjoy the atmosphere!
We'll finish with an optional check-in, sharing what we've been working on, and briefly discuss the next session's theme.
Think: creative club, accountability group, and time just for you.
We'll bring:
- Pens, pencils and colouring materials
- Paper
- Journalling prompts
- Creative prompts
Come as you are, or bring along your own notebook/journal/projects/supplies if you'd prefer.
Why join?
- Meet and make friends with local like-minded people
- Make creativity a habit instead of an occasional treat
- Enjoy a low-cost creative evening out
- Get gentle accountability to keep showing up
- Finish those nagging projects you've had sitting around
- Have an excuse to create or read something new
- Support local independent businesses and venues
- Be part of an actual community, not just a one-off event

In partnership with Very Small Bookshop
We've teamed up with Leah from Very Small Bookshop, a lovely independent bookshop in Bristol. For each session, she'll recommend a book inspired by the theme. We'll share a little about why she chose it at the start of the evening, and discounted copies will be available if you'd like one (because reading counts as creativity too!)
