A two-day symposium on creative writing, the creative-critical seam, and the Middle Ages
About this Event

The intersection of creative writing with academic and non-academic medievalism has yielded rich, exciting, and varied work in recent years and has opened up the primary sources of the Middle Ages to new audiences. At the same time, this work sometimes sits uneasily in traditional academic structures and methodological norms; the concept of the ‘trade book’ versus the ‘academic monograph’ or research article remains deeply entrenched. This symposium seeks to provide a generative space for writer-researchers working on medieval materials to share and reflect on their craft, their research processes, and to share work in progress. The symposium is designed to include plenty of time for informal conversations; it is not intended to be a ‘conference.’

Confirmed contributors include:

  • Anthony Bale
  • Elizabeth Boyle
  • Kristen Haas Curtis
  • Isabel Davis
  • Irina Dumitrescu
  • Amy Jeffs
  • Laura Varnam
  • Stacie Vos
  • James Wade

Registration strictly by eventbrite. Students, scholars, writers and interested members of the public are warmly invited to sign up. If you are unable to make the symposium please cancel your place as soon as possible.

The symposium will run from noon on Thursday 15th January until late afternoon on Friday 16th January. The day events will take place at the Faculty of English, 9 West Road, Cambridge and there will be an evening reception on Thursday 15th January at Girton College, Huntingdon Road. A lunch will be provided on 15th and 16th January.
