About this Event

Join us for the second of a four-part, hands-on lecture + workshop series exploring creative approaches to knowledge mobilization, hosted by SFU Community-Engaged Research Initiative (CERi), the SFU Knowledge Mobilization Hub, and the UBC Public Humanities Hub.

The Creative Knowledge Mobilization Workshop Series is designed for researchers, graduate students, practitioners, and community partners, introducing practical skills for translating research into engaging, accessible, and impactful public-facing formats.

Grounded in the principles of community-engaged research, public humanities, and knowledge mobilization, each workshop will explore how creative methods can strengthen relationships with communities, make research more accessible, and support meaningful public engagement. Participants will learn directly from experienced practitioners while gaining practical skills they can apply to their own research, teaching, and community partnerships.

Session 2: Podcasting with Dr. Hannah McGregor & Garth Mullins

Lecture: Podcasting as Movement Journalism with Garth Mullins (10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.)

Activist, author and podcaster Garth Mullins will discuss his work on the podcast Crackdown and introduce the idea of “movement journalism”: journalism created with and for communities directly affected by the issues being covered.

Lunch (12:00-1:00pm)

Stick around for lunch on us - just be sure to select a time slot that includes lunch if you'd like to stay :)

How to Create a Research Podcast (1:00–3:30 p.m.)
