About this Event
Join us at Creative Connect Houston as we bring together filmmakers, visual and performing artists, poets, student creatives, and community partners from across the Houston area for conversation, connection, and creative exchange.
The gatherings will be offered as two separate events on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Each gathering will offer a similar opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, learn more about the Denton Black Film Festival (DBFF), and build relationships across Texas’ creative communities. Attendees may choose the location and time that works best for them.

Both gatherings are designed to create space for artists, filmmakers, cultural organizations, and community leaders to share what they are working on, make new connections, exchange ideas, and expand their networks.
Creative Connect Houston is co-hosted by the Denton Black Film Festival (DBFF), Texas Institute for the Preservation of History and Culture (TIPHC), Prairie View A&M University Northwest Houston Center (NWHC), and Project Row Houses.

Denton Black Film Festival (DBFF)
Rooted in storytelling, culture, and community, the Denton Black Film Festival brings the Black experience to life through cinema, music, visual art, spoken word, comedy, workshops, panels, classes, community conversations, and more. Through its annual festival and year-round programming, DBFF creates opportunities for artists, audiences, and communities to connect, exchange ideas, collaborate, and celebrate the richness of Black creative expression.
Texas Institute for the Preservation of History and Culture (TIPHC) Established by the Texas Legislature in 1999, the Texas Institute for the Preservation of History and Culture (TIPHC) is a research and public service center within Prairie View A&M University’s School of Architecture. Its mission is to preserve and share Texas history and culture, with a particular emphasis on African American contributions, through exhibitions, public programs, and community partnerships.
Prairie View A&M University’s Northwest Houston Center (NWHC) NWHC is an extension of PVAMU’s main campus. Initiated in the late 1980s, PVAMU’s presence in Northwest Houston developed into a centralized academic center in 1998 and moved to its current Willowbrook facility in 2009. Today, the NWHC serves as a hub for academic programs, professional development, and community engagement, connecting PVAMU with the greater Houston community.
Project Row Houses (PHR) PRH is a Houston-based arts and community organization spanning five city blocks. Through art, cultural engagement, and direct action, PRH brings together artists, residents, and creative entrepreneurs to support community development. Rooted in one of Houston’s most historic neighborhoods, PRH is an influential model for using art to strengthen communities, celebrate cultural identity, and create sustainable opportunities.
