Create your own digital fabric design

Unleash your creativity and bring your designs to life in this two-part workshop that takes your ideas from digital sketches to stunning printed fabric.

Taking inspiration from the rich visual history of the Ekka available in State Library's collection, including stripes, colours, animals, or even the iconic Ekka Strawberry Sundae to create your very own printed fabric.
Whether you're an artist, designer, or curious beginner, this workshop will empower you to create unique, professional-quality textile patterns and explore their endless possibilities.

Workshop 1: Procreate Deep Dive
Dive into the world of digital fabric design using the Procreate illustration app and be inspired by the rich history of the Ekka. Learn how to craft seamless repeating patterns from scratch or transform existing images of the Ekka in our State Library John Oxley collection into striking motifs. We'll guide you through the essentials of great textile design, from colour harmony to layout techniques, helping you develop your own signature style.

Workshop 2: Digital Design Mastery
In this workshop we will take the next step in digital design. We'll give you feedback on your developing fabric designs, and work with you to transfer your creations into a professional print ready format that will be sent to commercial printers on your behalf. By the end of this session, you'll have a ready-to-print pattern that reflects your creative vision.

No prior experience in digital design is required, however basic use of digital devices recommended, bring along your imagination and enthusiasm!

This is a two-part workshop and it is expected you will attend both Saturday sessions as they build upon each other.
