Four-Part Creative Writing Workshop
Over four engaging sessions (October 4, 11, 18 & 25, 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM), participants will learn the essentials of storytelling and begin working on their own story, novella, or novel. Each session builds on the last, guiding writers step-by-step through the process:
- Session 1 – Becoming a Writer & Finding Inspiration
Theme: “You are a storyteller.”
Explore what makes someone a writer, discover how to cultivate a writing habit, and learn to draw ideas from life, dreams, memory, and myth. Overcome fear, perfectionism, and imposter syndrome. - Session 2 – Characters & World-Building
Theme: “Create people your readers believe in.”
Learn to build believable, dynamic characters with goals, flaws, and relationships. Explore immersive settings—real or imagined—and see how environments shape behavior and plot. - Session 3 – Story Development & Types of Storytelling
Theme: “Shape your chaos into a journey.”
Gain mastery of story arcs such as the 3-Act Structure, Hero’s Journey, and Kishōtenketsu. Understand conflict, stakes, narrative voice, and diverse storytelling modes from literary to episodic. - Session 4 – Indie vs. Traditional Publishing & Getting into Print
Theme: “Your story deserves to be read.”
Discover the current publishing landscape, from the pros and cons of indie vs. traditional publishing to practical steps in self-publishing (formatting, ISBNs, KDP, IngramSpark). Learn about query letters, agents, submission guidelines, and building an author platform. Includes a presentation by Tertulia – Author Website.
