Create a Beautiful Hawaiian Lei Po’o (Head Lei)
About this Event
Price: $60 includes hands-on instruction, a lei culture & etiquette session, all necessary materials, and an extensive Q&A.
Only 20 tickets available! The deadline to sign up is Thursday, July 6, at 11:30 am.
In Hawaiian, po'o means “head,” and a Lei Po'o is a stunning floral crown traditionally worn to celebrate special occasions. In this hands-on workshop, you'll create your own beautiful 21-inch Lei Po'o using a vibrant assortment of fragrant plumerias, seasonal flowers, and greenery (based on seasonal availability).
Guided by award-winning San Diego lei maker Margery Ohlson (@leibymargery), you'll learn the traditional wili (pronounced “vee-lee,” meaning “to wind” or “to twist”) technique used to craft these elegant floral head leis. Along the way, Margery will share her expertise on selecting and preparing flowers, caring for your lei to extend its beauty, and the rich cultural traditions and etiquette surrounding Hawaiian lei making.
As Hawaiian music plays softly in the background, you'll enjoy a relaxing and creative experience that celebrates the spirit of aloha. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced crafter, this welcoming class is designed for all skill levels.
