About this Event

Designed for complete beginners, this class teaches the fundamentals of modern calligraphy using an ordinary Crayola marker, making it an affordable, approachable, and low-pressure way to learn the art of beautiful lettering. Before purchasing specialty nibs, ink, and paper, you'll build the essential skills needed to create smooth, consistent letterforms with tools you may already have at home.

During the workshop, you'll learn:

  • The basic upstrokes and downstrokes that form the foundation of modern calligraphy
  • How to connect letters into elegant words and phrases
  • Tips for creating balanced, consistent lettering
  • Simple techniques you can continue practicing long after class

Each participant will receive beginner-friendly worksheets featuring step-by-step stroke instructions and guided practice exercises, making it easy to follow along at your own pace. By the end of the class, you'll have a solid understanding of hand lettering fundamentals and the confidence to continue your calligraphy journey.

No prior experience is necessary. Just bring your creativity! Whether you're looking to create handmade cards, personalize gifts, start a new hobby, or simply unwind with a relaxing creative activity, this workshop is an enjoyable and budget-friendly introduction to the world of modern calligraphy.

About the Instructor:

The Napping Bunny started in 2020 as a tribute to her beloved Polish dwarf bunny, Tin Tin. She wasn’t just a pet—she was Amy's best friend, her muse, and the inspiration behind everything she create. With her big personality and love for cozy napping spots, Tin Tin brought joy to every corner of our home. Her favorite? A tiny wooden bed from IKEA, lovingly gifted by her dad. That peaceful image still warms Amy's heart and continues to shape the spirit of her work.

About Sunset Commons:

Carmen and Steven started Sunset Commons to provide a space to connect and build community through arts and craft activities led by talented local artists. Inspired by a love for creativity and a desire to foster connection in the Sunset District, we envisioned a “third space” where neighbors can gather, unwind, and form meaningful relationships. Our mission is to empower self-expression, boost confidence, and offer an inclusive haven for everyone, from introverts seeking a calm environment to those enjoying health-focused traditional teas. Sunset Commons is not just a business - it’s our way of enriching the community we love and to the city we both grew up in.
