Crawford's Brigade at Cedar Mountain Battlefield Tour

On August 9, 1862, BGen Samuel Crawford's brigade, consisting of the 5th CT, 10th ME, 28th NY, and 46th PA, suffered the heaviest casualties of any Union brigade during the Battle of Cedar Mountain. We follow the brigade's path from the town of Culpeper to the Cedar Mountain Battlefield to understand what the soldiers in this brigade experienced and learn why they suffered such heavy casualties. The tour will begin at the Culpeper National Cemetery, where we will examine how the brigade's monuments commemorate the heavy fighting. We will then enter the battlefield through the Cedar Run Baptist Church and see the battlefield from the perspective of Union soldiers entering the field. Finally, we will walk through the brigade's assault on the park property.
