Join the Flathead Audubon Society and the Flathead County Libraries in a crafting workshop to raise awareness about bird conservation. One of the major threats to bird populations is collisions with glass buildings and windows. To educate the public on this issue, the international art and conservation project Bird Collisions in the Anthropocene, based in Illinois, is crowd-sourcing the creation of 10,863 hand-sewn birds, one for every bird found in 2023 by the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors after striking glass.Participants use upcycled cloth to handcraft life-sized bird sculptures. Each artwork commemorates a real bird that lost its life after hitting glass.Youโll also learn from Flathead Audubon Education Coordinator, Jess Garby, as she shares insight into bird conservation strategies.
Sewing experience is recommended, but not required. If you have spare fabrics, please bring it along. Adults and 16+.
